Nury Turkel is a Uyghur-American lawyer, foreign policy expert, human rights advocate, and author. Born in a Chinese re-education camp during the Cultural Revolution, he later received asylum in the U.S. and became the first U.S.-educated Uyghur lawyer. He has served as Vice Chair and Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), is a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, and co-founded the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP), serving as its Chairman of the Board. He authored 'No Escape: The True Story of China's Genocide of the Uyghurs' and has been recognized by TIME and Fortune as an influential global leader.
