He is the Dean Emeritus and Professor of International Relations and Earth and Environment at Boston University's Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. Since July 2023, he has served as the global President of WWF-International. He was a co-author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), work for which the scientific panel was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
